2021 Newest Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 Premium Laptop
Dell inspiron 17 inch 7706 two in one now finding a 17 inch laptop much less finding a good one these days is a little bit of a tricky thing most manufacturers have kind of scooted away from the large form factor of a laptop in favor of something that's a little smaller and more travel friendly but today we're going to find out if this 17-inch laptop is up to the task of becoming the best big boy laptop in the world let's get the specs out of the way really quick this particular test unit has the 11th generation i7 processor it has 16 gigabytes of ram a 512 gigabyte nvme solid state drive and the nvidia mx350 graphics and it also has a little 32 gigabyte intel optane uh chip in there that we will get into in a little bit more in a moment but nevertheless all of this comes at a retail price of about 12.99 which we're going to try to discover if that's good value or not let's knock the features out of the way really quick so it does come with a built-in webcam and here is what that webcam quality looks like now this is a test of the webcam on the dell inspiron 17 7000 series as you can see it's not too shabby and in the event that you decide to dance around naked in your room,
it does have a little privacy shutter on the webcam which is a nice touch that a lot of manufacturers are building in these days it does come with bluetooth built in it has wi-fi six as well it has a windows hello compatible fingerprint reader but it does not have a windows hello compatible camera so by all accounts it is a fairly feature-rich notebook it's maybe not like the most feature-rich in the world but it's definitely i think appropriate for its price tag it also has an outstanding screen it has a 17.3 inch qhd plus lcd display in there it's incredibly bright it's very crisp colors are accurate the whites are very true the blacks are very deep all in all it's a very very good quality screen and you're gonna get a lot of enjoyment watching movies editing websites videos pictures this kind of thing on it the problem is though is that it is a glossy screen and it is incredibly reflective of light so if i even just sort of i mean you can even see the the laptop in the camera there you can just see how bad its reflective qualities are and i wouldn't say that's necessarily a deal breaker but it's something that you're going to want to keep in mind if you work in either a room with overhead lights or if you work outside a lot this may not be the laptop for you dell has been including an anti-glare coating on some of their glossy screens but this one for whatever reason didn't make the cut and they didn't add that on there which i do think was a little bit of a mistake on dell's part and if anything it's also a little bit it's it shows that they got a little bit cheap on this notebook now dell has a habit of going a little bit cheap and cutting corners on their 17-inch machines and i hate to say it but this one is no exception.
For example, the speaker quality on this laptop is atrocious most big laptops these days at least try to put in some sort of branded harman kardon speakers in there or you know beat by dre whatever this kind of thing on their laptops just to kind of give it a little bit of a marketing spin on their audio but they sound a little bit better these speakers are incredibly tinny they have no bass they've got um they do have a ton of trouble treble and uh they're also pretty like distortion free for the most part but there is the occasional like little window sound that that will crackle the speakers a little bit they do get incredibly loud, uh and I'm not gonna bother playing what the speakers sound like over the camera because obviously, you won't be able to get the true appreciation of the fidelity to suffice to say that if you're an audiophile listening to music forget it you will not be able to do any audio production on these speakers you won't be able to listen to music very well on these speakers and you're probably not even going to want to watch a movie on these speakers which is a shame because you do have this big 17-inch beautiful screen perfect for watching movies with your family or something on a dinner table,
but nevertheless, speakers are pretty damn bad and I do think that they should have concentrated on putting slightly better speakers in there but they didn't, and well just moving on let's get off the speakers now already okay they're not good uh let's talk about the keyboard now so the keyboard is a full length, uh it's a full keyboard it's got the little Numpad on the right side there so that means that accountants and people that do a lot of data entry excel spreadsheets that kind of thing is absolutely going to love that it does have a backlight built into the keyboard as well the keyboard is incredibly accurate it's tactile it's smooth it feels good in the hands' everything is sort of in the right place it's just a great quality keyboard dell usually does a very good job with their keyboards and
this one is no exception but where the problem lies is that unlike some of the newer inspirations this one has silver keycaps on the keys and why do you manufacturers insist on putting silver keycaps on your keyboards it makes it impossible to see the keys under even the best conditions the only way you can improve it even once slightly is if you enable the backlight on it but otherwise, the keys are the letterings on the keys are almost impossible to see I don't know what the obsession is with manufacturers putting silver keycaps but please stop doing it it is it doesn't look cool it's stupid and it's not very practical or functional trackpad very very big very very good very accurate very precise multi-gesture it goes where you want there's not a lot of ghosting on it it is just a fantastic trackpad it is almost about the size of my hand, uh it is very very good and it makes up for the bs on the silver keycaps,
I suppose but anyway great trackpad now let's talk about input and output on this machine it has on this side it has USB-c where you can charge it also has a USB super-speed port their regular type I couldn't think of the word type an uh HDMI and uh no that is not throughput so you're not going to be able to put like your Xbox or PlayStation 4 on there although I'm not sure why you want to do that on a laptop anyway nevertheless you can't and then of course where you plug it in,
because it doesn't run on solar energy and then on this site, you've got a camera card reader which can take full-size sd cards nice touch you've got another USB super-speed port and then a dual microphone headphone audio jack let's try to get that glare out of the way so all in all the input and output on this thing is pretty decent you could use this in an audio studio for sure if you have like
an in-house audio studio it'd probably be pretty great for that you've got that thunderbolt USB-c port there which will allow you to connect a hub and of course allows you to connect a switch and other peripheral devices microphones this kind of thing and it is a very very fast laptop that 11th generation i7 processor absolutely screams in performance and then whenever the thing needs to
sort of kick up into graphical mode it does have the Nvidia mx350 graphics card in there too which takes a brunt end of the graphical beatings and by popular request here is a benchmark through nova bench of what this thing is sort of capable of I wouldn't say this is a very good laptop for gaming however though and the reason why is because the mx350 is not powerful enough to push uh like really intense graphics to the qhd screen so the resolution on a qhd plus screen is 2560x1600 and while you can certainly play like Minecraft and Roblox and probably like Fortnite you're not going to be able to play any kind of triple-a titles cyberpunk rdr2 GTA 5 on max settings it's just not going to be able to drive that horsepower but you can certainly get a lot of video editing done on this thing and you could probably even do some 4k video editing with some fairly light amount of effects again the graphics card is going to take up a brunt end of that video processing and of course,
because you've got that 512-gigabyte solid-state drive with the optane built-in data writing and reading is going to be incredibly fast it's probably a fine laptop for some like on-site video editing if you're like you don't have anything else you will probably want to have another external solid-state drive for like a scratch disk slash like putting files on because you know 512 is not like a huge amount especially for high-end video footage these days but you could certainly process some video stuff on there,
if you need to I don't think that this laptop is for like nonprofits it's just a little bit too expensive and as far as just being like a general productivity computer it's a little bit overkill for that as well so if you're looking for just general productivity you're going to probably want to pull back into something a little bit less expensive maybe like either the 5000 series dell and spins or maybe even going to like the Lenovo something like that Acer laptops but it is a very very fast good powerful laptop it's very clean it's made of very good materials everything is sort of these good plastics and metals they've got this very nice finish on the edge of the laptop that's just they've polished it's shiny it feels good and clean in the hands and let's get this as I should just stop picking the thing up to do we recommend this dell Inspiron 17 um 7706 two-in-one laptop and the answer is yes I think we do if you're looking for a big huge laptop that you don't want to throw down for the MacBook pro 16 inch and you just want something that's like gives you a lot of kind of bang for your buck you can probably get this thing on sale for maybe a little like more than a thousand bucks again retails about 12.99 on it,
uh I do think that it is pretty decent value but there are just some corners and some design mistakes that I wish dell paid a little bit more attention to and it's and again something like the silver keycaps is very easy all you got to do is just stop making silver keycap keys and as far as the speakers are concerned you maybe just could have put something a little beefier in there battery life on the laptop is going to be probably one of those like all day things as long as you're not doing any kind of like major audio-video processing it is if you sort of putting it in low power mode it should be able to dial itself back to giving you um again practical usages like maybe all day in an airport or something like that but it is a very big laptop and it's not lightweight it is heavier and bulkier than the MacBook Pro 16-inch so I don't think that you're going to want to use this if you travel a lot this is going to be the kind of laptop that you maybe have to bring on site to a video or audio production or this is just something that sort of sits on your desk and for whatever reason,
you want a laptop and not an all-in-one but it's really not a traveler's notebook by any means and if you it is not going to fit into like let's say a mystery ranch briefcase or anything like that you are going to need a big bag to be able to carry this big laptop it's just it's chunky if I'm not getting that point across and uh and again nothing wrong with that's just what this laptop is it's not a thin and light machine it's not an lg gram but it is a good machine anyway so it is a good machine I don't think I would ever find myself buying one of these but I do think that it has a purpose and I do think that somebody who buys it will like it another thing worth mentioning on this dell inspiron 2 and one is that because it is the two in one machine it's it can go all the holy crap I'm breaking it it can go back into a tablet mode now um I'm not sure who's going to be using a 17-inch machine in a tablet mode like this because it is I mean it is just beefy it's chunky but if you want an um you know like table-sized iPad in your hands that weighs about as much as like.
